  • What is Jaw - TMJ rehabilitation?

Jaw - TMJ physical therapy involves the Jaw muscle group. Jaw rehabilitation is physiotherapy treatment on the Jaw.

Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ) is an umbrella term covering pain and dysfunction of the muscles of mastication (the muscles that move the jaw) and the temporomandibular joints (the joints which connect the mandible to the skull).

  • What are the symptoms of the TMJ dysfunction?

The most important feature is pain, followed by restricted mandibular movement, and noises from the temporomandibular joints (TMJ) during jaw movement. Although TMJ is not life-threatening, it can be detrimental to quality of life, because the symptoms can become chronic.

other symptoms could be:

  • clicking or locking of the jaw

  • limited range of movement with mouth opening

  • headaches

  • neck pain and stiffness

  • dizziness

  • tinnitus

  • Physiotherapy for Jaw - TMJ dysfunction

TMJ - Jaw physical therapist will carry out a thorough assessment to find the real cause of client's pain / dysfunction.

After the assessment treatment will be provided in order to

  • Optimize client's neurology

  • Release tight / facilitated muscles

  • Strengthen muscles that they are under-working

  • and also we will work out a programme of recovery tailored to client's needs.
